THE LIVING PRACTICES GALLERY

A digital archive of stories told through everyday life

This archive holds the stories of how culture is lived in African and Diasporic communities. It brings together the everyday ways of living that carry meaning; how people cook, dress, build, gather, celebrate, take care of each other. These are the practices that dont always get written down, but are learned by watching, by doing, by being part of a community.

Practices shift with time, place and circumstance. The gallery is about continuity. The small repeated acts through which culture lives.

THE WAYS OF KNOWING GALLERY

A digital archive of stories told though systems of thought and understanding the world

This archive holds stories of the intellectual, philosophical, and knowledge traditions of African and Diasporic communities.

It brings together different ways of thinking, sensing, and making meaning through language, memory, observation, spirituality, and lived experience. Not everything here is written or formal. Much of it is carried in stories, in proverbs, in intuition, in how people read their environment and relate to one another. These ways of knowing are layered, relational, and shaped by place and history.
